Meet our Friends . . . Flight Digital

1 year ago by

Meet our Friends‘ series is where we take a moment to celebrate and share a little about the diverse studios who make up our DA Friends. Today we spoke to our friends Flight Digital who, along with their collective love for dogs ( yes, they have four office doggos ), pride themselves on a studio culture that encourages bringing your whole self – your ‘true self’ – to work. In this article Flight give us a peak into their design process, share their fav studio management tools, and hint at their plans for 2023.

Where are you based and what shape does the Flight team take?

We’ve recently moved to Beresford Square, so we’re right in the heart of the bustling K-Road community, providing us with some awesome, vibrant places to caffeinate, eat and be entertained.

As for our team, we’re a group of multi-disciplinary, independent thinkers who work across strategy, creative, tech, client services and delivery. Our culture and the quality of the talented people who work for us is definitely our point of difference, and our focus on cross-team collaboration ensures we’re looking at every brief from every angle from start to finish.

Can you share with us what a typical day at Flight looks like?

We don’t know if there is such a thing as a typical day at Flight! We’re pretty flexible and with so many different projects on the go at any given time we could be running a workshop, WFH, presenting creative territories, writing functional specification documents or simply hanging out and enjoying each other’s company at our agency assemblies and social events.

A common theme regardless of what the day brings though is for each person to bring their whole self – their ‘true self’ – to work. This enables us to bring our individuality and identity to all that we do during the time we spend at work, as we believe a great culture fosters great work.

We also have a collective love for dogs, so it’s not uncommon for one of our four office dogs to be mooching around seeking pats and treats. We also love cats by the way.

What projects have you been working on recently?

We were extremely honoured to work with Amnesty International Aotearoa on their

‘Write for Rights’ campaign, which is the world’s biggest human rights event. Our challenge was to develop a creative OOH campaign for how New Zealanders can get involved, which launched at the start of December in coordination with Human Rights Day 2022.

We’re also working closely with Anathoth Farm, to reimagine their website platform for potential customer and brand loyalists alike. As Anathoth Farm continues to invest in brand building, their new platform needs to ensure an easy and enjoyable experience that keeps their customers coming back.

Another cool piece of work which is due to go live early this year, is our digital partnership with Cadpro who are New Zealand’s leading supplier of professional CAD & CAM technology. This first phase of work with them has been a big one, focussed around reengineering their website experience to then enable a larger CX evolution. We’ve worked on their proposition, developing a creative platform, UX and UI and most recently a three-day photoshoot to build a unique image library that can be used across their brand and marketing collateral.

Lastly, and another one that is launching very soon, is the first-ever website for NST Parts – a secondary arm of North Shore Toyota. They specialise in the supply of performance parts to customers around New Zealand and with a vast range of parts sold through their TradeMe page, this new eCommerce platform will allow for greater internal efficiencies and future growth and scale within the business.

As for 2023, we have so many exciting things in the works. So watch this space.

What does the Flight design process and philosophy look like?

First and foremost, we’re a digitally-led, customer experience studio who want to help businesses grow by transforming the way they connect with their customers. We’re driven by results and believe in creating ‘Ideas that work harder’ through the combination of strategy, creativity, technology and data.

This lends itself to a varied design approach, depending on the challenge and who we’re working with. But our process of Discover, Define, Design & Deliver is always the same.

Beginning a project or partnership with our Discovery process enables us to interrogate the customer, category, business and brand. This sets us up for success by having clearly defined goals and objectives that hold both ourselves and our clients accountable. Then the creative fun begins! Whether that’s designing a new website, launching a new campaign or starting a full digital transformation journey.

We don’t have pre-defined expectations of what any given project or partnership will look like, but we do firmly believe in only working with brands who put their customers first.

Favourite tools in the studio to help your team manage the day-to-day?

Our top three tools would be:

  • Forecast for managing studio wide resourcing.
  • Asana for managing work-in-flow and day-to-day tasks.
  • Slack for everyday comms, be that client, Flight or social related.
What recent achievements or projects are you most proud of?

We’ve had so many recent projects that we’re proud of but some of the most notable would be the launch of the new Langbein’s website, which you can read more about here, as well as the reimagining of Metlifecare’s online platform, which will continue to be developed over the next few months as we include different layers of user personalisation. We’ve also had two very successful digital campaigns launched with Lumin and Seasonz, that have provided both companies with strong creative platforms to build from over the next year. You can learn more about these projects on our website.

Where to next for Flight, what is your team working towards for 2023?

Over the next year we want to continue working towards reinforcing our place as a leading customer experience agency.  Our expertise in headless solutions, innovative technology and creative excellence will remain at the forefront of how we achieve customer inspired growth. We have big plans for the future!
