Announcing Design & New Horizons

Design Assembly presents: Design & New Horizons

Many of us find ourselves at a crossroads, feeling individually and collectively that design, Aotearoa, and the world at large, are all at a critical turning point. This spring, Design Assembly presents Design & New Horizons, a theme set to explore that which exists beyond our line of sight – past the immediate and the obvious.

Together, we will examine, discuss and expand our individual and collective ideas about design – What is it? What could it be? Where does its value lie now and into the future? – at events and workshops in Tāmaki Makaurau, Pōneke, Ōtautahi and online. Interviews with forward thinkers and project and process case studies published on the Design Assembly website will inspire and challenge you to think beyond today.

The visual identity for Design & New Horizons, designed by our friends at PHQ, evokes a sense of movement and progress. Recent advances in technology, combined with social and climate challenges, do more than just broaden our horizon, they multiply them. The future is slippery, and PHQ believes curiosity is our best tool for exploring the complexity of our environment, finding beauty beyond current convention and embracing the unknown.

How to get involved

We’re all about collaboration and sharing knowledge, so we’d love you to contribute to the Design & New Horizons exploration. If you’re working on a project that pushes the boundaries, or have thoughts on the future of design, we want to hear from you!

Submit your work to Fresh from the Field here or email us with your expression of interest by 20 September.
