Between the Pages Edu Series: Examples of different binding styles
We popped by our Friends at Bookprint to see how they make and print books right here in Aotearoa NZ. In this week’s series, David shares with us some different examples of the binding styles on offer and the pros and cons of each.
Key Takeaways:
- Covers with sewn in sections can either be left exposed or you can get creative by adding a piece of scrim on top for a different look.
- Saddle stitch books – if done with a laminated cover there’s quite a lot of resistance to the pages pulling out. BookPrint have a limit of 60 pages for a saddle stitch book to maintain quality and robustness.
- Spiral binding can be done in either wire or plastic. Although wire is more aesthetic, it has a tendency to get bent easily so if you’re looking for something more robust you may want to opt for a plastic spiral.
