The brief
Billions of plastic plant pots are made annually, ending up in landfills and taking 450 years to decompose. The Wool Pot, a revolutionary eco-innovator, addresses this crisis with the world’s first 100% biodegradable plant pot made from recycled New Zealand wool. It decomposes within weeks, enriching the soil with nutrients and leaving no trace behind. Creating an iconic and memorable brand for The Wool Pot was our challenge, as this small start-up product aims to be educational and environmentally impactful.
The Design Response:
We gave a face to this purpose-driven brand through an iconic character that efficiently reads as both a sheep’s face and a plant pot. The eyes playfully elude to seeds while the outer wool shape also suggests a flower. The identity utilises one colour and is playfully used in positive and reverse, nodding to black and white sheep. The reductive execution of the character makes for a mark that functions well in both small and large formats and is instantly recognised and uniquely ownable for The Wool Pot.
