The brief

Ngā Hua Toi is an advocacy project for Māori Theatre and Dance practitioners across Aotearoa.’Ngā Hua Toi is an advocacy project for Māori Theatre and Dance practitioners across Aotearoa.

First established in 2020, Ngā Hua Toi delivers a programme of kaupapa, initiatives, kōrero and wānanga throughout Aotearoa including Te Taitokerau, Waikato, Heretaunga, Ōtautahi & Ōtepoti, as well as in the online space.

Ngā Hua Toi was created and is nurtured by a collective of ten Māori Contemporary Arts companies and festivals–The Grateful 8–based across the motu: Tāmaki Makaurau, Tūranga-nui-a- Kiwa, Te Whanganui-a-Tara and Ōtautahi.

The brief was to create a WordPress website that has the capacity to articulate Ngā Hua Toi’s activities as well provide an internal membership mechanism for Māori theatre and art artists.

The Design Response

Stage One
Landing Page Page Development, for an online presence while the rest of the site is built.
Elements included Logo, Orientation statement, and a Mailchimp signup form for notification when full site goes live

Stage Two
Allowed time for indepth strategy development on the full website and loading of basic pages:
– Homepage
– About page
– Contact page
– And a Digital content page with embedded tutorial videos and panel discussion videos.

Stage Three
Implementation of the full website and additional pages:
– Ngā Hua Toi series of activities + people
– Membership area and listings
– Job Listings
– Mailchimp popup subscription

Outcome
A website with significant functionality to allow to ongoing nurturing and networking of contemporary Māori arts practitonioners.
