Type Here: A call for Aotearoa’s best typography
Learn more and enter Type Here Aotearoa New Zealand’s newest typography poster competition.

Type Here is a new Aotearoa typography poster competition. This is a place rich in storytelling, from epic mythologies to emotional journeys, our stories carry the very DNA of our nation. Type Here celebrates these stories, expressed through language, culture and typography,
Judges for Type Here are Hamish Childs, Emma Hickey, Kaan Hiini, and Sarah Maxey. Hamish and Emma are both previous winners of Type Here. Kaan was last year’s overall winner for his entry ‘Toitū Te Tiriti’. This year’s competition also features an international judge – iconic graphic designer Bráulio Amado.

The theme for Type Here is ‘Kiwi Culchur’, and existing or newly created work can be entered. The idea of the competition and this year’s theme come from discussions with many designers throughout the country.
We all communicate in different ways, from language to subcultures. Typography adds greater meaning and insight into how we understand each other. Entries should explore what Aotearoa’s diverse culture means in 2025. This may take the form of personal interpretation, political message or expression of aroha. Because we all have our own unique stories to tell, Type Here will be a typographic snapshot of who we are as a nation.
Type Here is free to enter. Winning work will be announced on Instagram and exhibited at Auckland University of Technology’s Te Wai Ngutu Kākā Gallery in September.
