Type Here: A call for Aotearoa’s best typography
Celebrating personal stories expressed through language, culture, and typography; Type Here is an Aotearoa typography poster competition, focussed on contemporary and expressive typography.
‘Following the unprecedented interest in the TDC Aotearoa exhibition over the past five years, we wanted to establish a creative competition, focussed solely on our own incredibly talented local designers’ – Lloyd Osborne, Strategy Director at Osborne Shiwan
Judges for Type Here are:
- Zoe Black (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Hine, Pākehā): Deputy Director of Objectspace
- Anthony Hos: Design Director at Milk
- Shabnam Shiwan: Creative Director at Osborne Shiwan
- Johnson Witehira (Tamahaki, Ngāti Hinekura, Ngāpuhi, Ngāi Tū-teauru): Co-Founder of IDIA.
The theme of Type Here is ‘Aotearoa now’ and existing or newly created work can be entered.
This may take the form of personal interpretation, political message or expression of aroha. Because we all have our own unique stories to tell Type Here will be a typographic snapshot of who we are as a nation in 2024.
LO: ‘Aotearoa is a place rich in storytelling, from epic mythologies to emotional journeys, these stories carry the very DNA of our nation. With Type Here, we aim to celebrate this ‘typographic snapshot’ of Aotearoa in 2024’.
The idea of the competition and theme initially came from discussions with many designers throughout the country. Entries may be personal, commercial and feature a motion component.
LO: True diversity helps us all grow as designers. We’re looking forward to seeing a broad range of entries – from expressions of aroha to political protest – all ‘types’ are welcome.
Type Here is free to enter.
Dates:
- July 8: Entries close
- August 12: Finalists announced
- August 28 to September 4: Finalists exhibited at Objectspace in Tāmaki Makaurau.
