Fresh From The Field — Born to Create
This Fresh From The Field features an inspirational series of artwork celebrating heroines by Lucie Blazevska.

The Brief:
“We were all born to create but human creation wouldn’t be at all possible without women, the creators of us all.”
Born to Create began as a solo exhibition across Auckland’s galleries (Studio One Toi Tū, Depot Artspace) and the Pullman Hotel. The artwork is a collection of one-of-a-kind skateboard celebrating local (and worldwide) heroines. Lucie Blazevska wanted to profile these amazing women to inspire communities and youths and to show that you don’t have to be famous in order to make a difference in the world around you.
The Response:
The bright colours and dynamic imagery are emotive and speak to a wide group of people. Most of the artworks are a combination of doodling details from sketchbook refined in Illustrator. Some of the artworks are hand-embellished collages straight on the skateboard decks which are then protected by fibre glass layer.
The intention wasn’t to tell the women’s stories through the visual response but encourage the audience to learn more about women displayed. To satisfy this curiosity Lucie created a website to profile the featured heroines.
Another part of this project is an interactive workshop ‘‘Learn and Create’’ where girls bring photos of their heroines and do a collage on canvas and also discuss inspirational women in their communities.
The collection is currently on display at the Pullman Hotel and will be displayed at the Studio One Toi Tū from 11th June to 9th July 2020.
