About Design Assembly

Design Assembly has been the home of Aotearoa New Zealand design since 2009, offering a collaborative platform—both online and in person—for designers to connect, learn, and find inspiration.

Over more the last 17 years, we’ve built a vibrant, inclusive community that shares ideas, sparks conversations, and champions the value of design across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Through our website, workshops, interviews, and events, we create a safe, supportive space for designers to grow their skills, exchange experiences, and support one another.

Louise Kellerman – Founder Managing & Creative Director

Louise has a background in graphic design, she studied at AUT University and has worked for over 25 years in Auckland and London.

In August 2008 with a desire for events and a community for Aotearoa NZ graphic designers, Louise founded Design Assembly with a series of evening speaker events in Auckland.

Since then Design Assembly has grown to hold events and workshops throughout the year in Auckland, Hamilton, Napier, Wellington and Christchurch. The website publishes fresh regular content every week profiling and celebrating New Zealand designers, studios, students and design work.
