Expression of Interest – Design Assembly Auckland Community Host

1 day ago by

For the last year, one of my favourite parts of Design Assembly has been hosting our Auckland Coffee Club.

Every month, I’ve watched friendships begin over a coffee, collaborations spark between strangers, and careers grow through conversations that may never have happened otherwise. It’s become a place where our creative community comes together to connect, share ideas, and support one another.

Now it’s time for someone new to take the reins.

As Design Assembly continues to grow, we’re looking for an Auckland Community Host to become the welcoming face of our monthly DA Coffee Club from September 2026.

This role isn’t about running an event. It’s about creating an environment where people feel welcome, conversations happen naturally, and our creative community continues to thrive.

About the role

As our Auckland Community Host, you’ll help create a relaxed and inclusive space where designers and creatives can connect with one another.

You will:

  • Host 11 DA Coffee Clubs each year at a central Auckland venue.
  • Welcome attendees and create a warm, inclusive atmosphere.
  • Facilitate introductions and conversations.
  • Capture photos and short-form video content for Design Assembly’s social media channels.
  • Listen to the community, identify ideas and opportunities, and share feedback and insights with the Design Assembly team.
  • Represent Design Assembly and help strengthen Auckland’s creative community.

Why become a Community Host?

This is a unique opportunity to become a recognised connector within Auckland’s design industry.

This is an opportunity to:

  • Grow your professional network across Auckland’s design industry.
  • Become a recognised leader and connector within the creative community.
  • Develop your facilitation, leadership and community-building skills.
  • Help shape future Design Assembly programmes by representing your local community.
  • Work alongside Louise and the Design Assembly team to continue building a generous, connected and thriving design ecosystem.

Who we’re looking for

You don’t need previous event hosting experience. What matters most is that you genuinely enjoy connecting people.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about design and the creative industries.
  • Friendly, approachable and inclusive.
  • A natural connector who enjoys meeting new people.
  • Organised and dependable.
  • Confident facilitating conversations in a relaxed environment.
  • Excited about contributing to Auckland’s creative community.

About the opportunity

This position begins as a volunteer leadership role.

As the DA Coffee Club grows, there is the opportunity for the role to evolve into a remunerated position through sponsorship and partnership opportunities that support the programme. If you have experience or interest in developing partnerships, we’d love to hear about that too.

Design Assembly will provide onboarding, support and guidance to help you settle into the role.

Timeline

Expressions of Interest close: Friday 24 July
Onboarding: August
Role commences: First week of September

How to apply

Whether it’s a written letter, a short video, both or another creative format that feels authentic to you, we’d love to learn a little more about who you are, and see your personality shine through.

Please include:

  • A short introduction about yourself.
  • Your professional background.
  • Why this opportunity interests you.
  • What you believe you would bring to the Design Assembly community.
  • Any experience in community building, facilitation, sponsorship, or partnerships.
  • Links to your LinkedIn profile, portfolio, or website (if applicable).

Please send your Expression of Interest to louise@designassembly.org.nz by Friday 24 July.

I’m looking for someone who believes that communities don’t just happen, they’re nurtured by people who care. If that sounds like you, I’d love to hear from you.
