Name: Meenal Shyam
Project name: Feels
Feels is a project based around how designers can create human, emotional connections with their consumers. Within visual communication, it is imperative to create work that our audiences are able to connect with and respond to. The need for designers to take an empathic approach to their design work is needed, and is where many young and new designers can get stuck. This investigation led me to create Feels – a book series that focuses on the core design elements and how we can use them to create these emotional experiences and connections, as well as building empathy within ourselves as designers.

Name: Robert Grey
Project name: ‘Cards for humanity’
‘Cards for humanity’ is an educational tool, designed for young adults to educate and encourage empathy about topics regarding both sexuality and gender identity. For myself, growing up I noticed an absence of conversation surrounding the idea of extended sexuality or gender identity within sexual health classes. To avoid alternate sexuality and/or identities in classroom-based discussion of sexual health implies that they are inappropriate, and contributes to heterosexism in the school environment. My project aims to combat this by providing teachers with a resource that will act as a catalyst to initiate conversation and develop empathy among students.
