Through the Lens
Each month, we explore a new theme through imagery in partnership with Truestock, looking at how stock can support storytelling in ways that feel authentic, grounded, and relevant to life in Aotearoa.
This month, we’re focusing on “The Art of Everyday Life“.

Stock imagery plays a quiet but important role in design. It helps bring ideas to life, adds context, and often fills the gaps when original photography isn’t possible. But finding imagery that feels authentic, especially within an Aotearoa context, isn’t always easy.
Many designers will be familiar with searching through endless libraries of polished, generic images that don’t quite reflect the people, places, or stories we see around us every day. The light feels different, the environments feel unfamiliar, and the people don’t always represent the communities we’re designing for.
That’s where locally produced stock can make a real difference.

Truestock offers a collection of imagery that feels grounded in everyday life here in Aotearoa, capturing real moments, real people, and real environments. From shared meals and quiet routines to moments of connection and community, these images feel recognisable in a way that resonates more deeply.
For designers, this kind of authenticity matters. It allows work to feel more relatable, more considered, and more connected to its audience. Whether used in branding, campaigns, or digital platforms, imagery that reflects lived experience helps tell more meaningful stories.
This series, The Art of Everyday Life, highlights that approach. A collection of images that don’t try too hard, but instead capture the subtle, human moments that make up daily life.
A reminder that sometimes the most effective visuals are the ones that feel the most familiar.
