The Ellen MacArthur Foundation aims to make circular design “the new normal’ by persuading 20 million designers to help transform the global economy from a linear to a circular model.

With the intention of persuading millions of designers to stop creating products that end up as landfill.

The foundation has calculated that by 2025 there will be 160 million designers and creative decision-makers in the world, representing five per cent of the global workforce of 3.4 billion people.

About Circularity

Circularity is NZ’s only dedicated circular design think tank. Our mission is to empower problem-solving for a radically changing world. Through transformation and collaboration, we want to solve the challenges of waste, pollution and climate change. We do this by applying our circular by design methodology to deliver circular programs, coaching and strategy for organisations around the world. The result of our work is unlocked value and climate resilience through the radical redesign of business for the circular economy.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is for designers, business owners and strategists who are seeking a framework for designing products, systems, services and businesses that overcome the wasteful reality of our world.

How can we radically redesign our world to work with nature not against it?

During this workshop you will fall in love with the problem and learn about the nature of the circular economy.

Through the workshop you will discover a new plastics economy is being built using circular thinking where everything that can be made, can be unmade. And new form of design that is rising up to create future brands.

You will learn:

  • About the systemic issues we face as designers in Aotearoa, what pathways are underway to solve these challenges?. What does the future look like?
  • Understand more about what is the circular economy and how can this provide a framework for design.
  • Put into practice a circular by design approach to help us create products that are better for people and planet

The How: Circular by design methods

Bring your challenge to the workshop to experiment with circular exercises to solve the issues of carbon, plastic pollution and waste.

About Louise Nash

With 20+ years experience in global strategic brand development, human-centered design thinking and emerging disruptive technology, Louise Nash has founded Circularity with the purpose of empowering problem solving for a radically changing world. Following a career as a Chief Strategy Officer, in 2017 she undertook a Master of Technological Futures at The Tech Futures Lab with a focus on developing a methodology to unlock the circular economy advantage.

This methodology is drawn from circular case studies, thought leaders and research on how to make the shift from a linear model to a circular one for organisations, businesses and nations. This simple, yet powerful framework empowers people to solve environmental challenges and unlock economic value by becoming circular by design. This had led to her contribution to the first Circular Economy report produced by the Sustainable Business Network and Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development for the Auckland region.
